As promised on the Otter Team Messages page, I created this page to give you more details and photos of the hockey gear we have available this year for you to use. Photos of hockey players in action can be found in the Otter Team Hockey Photo Album page.
Though we have a lot more gear this year we still don't have every possible item in every possible size. To do that we'd need to be big as a major hockey shop, but we're still just Otter size!
Our largest investment in gear this year went into goalie gear: leg pads, gloves and blockers, chest protectors and goalie pants. Fortunately a lot of people heard about what we are doing and decided to donate gear too. We received many nice extra items for goalies and players too. We are most grateful for those donations! There will be two ways for Otter Teammates to borrow gear this year: You can use it here at the Otter Team pond or at a rink closer to home.
When using gear here at the Otter Team pond you'll be able to try out any gear you see and use it to your heart's content.
Our rink forms on a pond that becomes ready for skating in January and lasts about 10 weeks. Other local ice surfaces may be ready for skating in November and last until late March. To take advantage of the extra ice time and longer skating season on those other ice surfaces you may wish to borrow some gear to take home. Any gear that isn't required by any other Otter Teammates could be borrowed for as long as you'd like to use it, and then returned at the end of the skating season. If the gear you're borrowing is required by other players we'll need to put time limits on the loan-out to allow other players a chance to have a turn with it.
Our ultimate goal is to have enough supplies in stock to outfit Otter Teammates with gear to take home and use as much and as long as they like - with the understanding that when players are done playing for the season or have outgrown the gear it will be returned so we can fix it up to be ready for the next Otter Teammates to use. We are always working toward that goal by being on the lookout for gear to add to our hockey supplies. For this reason donations of hockey gear are so incredibly helpful. Without that extra help from donors we'd never be able to accumulate enough supplies on our own to let every Otter Team player borrow the gear they need for a whole season.
It would take quite a bit of time to photograph and list every item so instead I've decided to keep it simple so we can all get on the ice without any delay. Below is a collection of photos showing most of what we have available for you this year. We have items for players from about 4 years of age and up to about 12-14 years old.
If you'd like to borrow any gear the easiest thing to do is to email me with some details about your age/size, which items you need, where you plan to use the gear and for how long you'd like to borrow it. We'll then see if we have what you need!
The three photos above show some of the gear that came in during the summer, spread out on the driveway getting organized. As everything was sorted, repaired and cleaned up ready for players to use it was hung or placed on shelves indoors.
